Course Description

Diploma in Business Studies gives students the best possible preparation for a successful career in one of a wide range of industries. Graduates of the course will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic underlying academic concepts and principles associated with the broader discipline of Management.

 

The programme aims to provide students with:

  • Business Communications: This module comprehensively covers business communication theories, practices, and basic principles. It emphasizes professional communication and enables students to effectively present in business settings.

 

  • International Business Management: This module enhances understanding of international business, focusing on the establishment of new businesses. It includes trends and issues in international business, global firms’ environment analysis, and multi-disciplinary management comprehension.

 

  • Principles of Accounting: This module provides a foundational understanding of Accounting principles and concepts. Students will learn to apply these in preparing financial statements for various entities and develop an analytical approach to financial problem-solving.

 

  • Principles of Economics: This module introduces basic economic principles and their application to business. It covers aspects of the global and national markets, laying the foundation for future courses through an overview of key micro and macroeconomic concepts.

 

  • Data Analytics: This module introduces data analytics, involving statistical tests, data modelling, and visualization using GUI tools. It covers concepts of data mining, model evaluation, and results presentation.

 

  • Principles of Management: This module introduces management principles and practices, covering aspects like strategy, operations, project management, ethics, organisational structures, power, teams, stress management, social responsibility, and change management.

 

  • Principles of Marketing: This module provides an understanding of Marketing’s role, its principles, concepts, and techniques. It enables students to explore marketing theories and their value in achieving corporate success in competitive business environments.

 

  • Quantitative Methods: This module introduces fundamental concepts of quantitative decision making and qualitative methods in management. It enables students to gather, present data, and apply various statistical and operational research techniques.

This programme is also relevant for those aiming for a Higher Education qualification in a subject allied to Business and Management.

 

Full-time/ Part-time Options:

  • Full-time students (Weekdays only, 8 months):
    • Attend 3-hour lessons/day plus directed/independent study, Mon-Fri
    • Total 36 hours of directed study; 27 hours Synchronous and 9 hours Asynchronous
  • Part-time students (Weekdays & weekend, 12 months):
    • 3-hour lessons, three nights a week and scheduled weekends
    • Total 30 hours of directed study; 21 hours Synchronous and 9 hours Asynchronous

 

Entry Requirements:

 

Exclusive admission process for GrabAcademy applicants:

  • Students with non-standard entry requirements (e.g. other PEI qualification, lack of equivalent Year 12 in home country, etc.) will be assessed on a case-by-case basis subject to approval of the Academic Board.

  • Work Experience: Mature Entry Route (MER) with minimum age of 21 plus work experience (2 years minimum) will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

 

Standard entry requirements:

  • At least two passes in GCE ‘A’ Level; or International Baccalaureate (24 points); or Local Polytechnic Diploma in any field; or Completion of Year 12 High School Qualification or equivalent qualification from respective home countries
  • Fulfil the minimum English language entry requirement of one of the following
    • Achieved grade C6 or better in English language in GCE O level; or
    • Pass in English Language in Year 10 High School qualification or equivalent; or
    • IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550; or
    • Completed LSBF Preparatory Course in English Upper Intermediate Level.
  • Minimum Age: 18 years old
